Complete the Winter Reading Challenge at Warren County Public Library!

As the weather gets cooler, and our days get shorter, we might find ourselves bringing out puzzles, hot tea, blankets, cozy socks, board games and books to help us settle into the winter season (and keep us from falling asleep at 6pm!).

Warren County Public Library is encouraging you to read more books this season with our Winter Reading Program, which will run from December 1, 2021-January 31, 2022. If readers of any age read any combination of five books, audiobooks and/or attend library programs or events, they will receive a prize! You can pick up a Winter Reading log in person at any library branch, use the one attached to this article, or print one online at warrenpl.org/winter.

Reading during the winter months can help keep our minds active while still participating in the cozy traditions we enjoy with friends and family. Consider changing up your habits this winter by replacing TV before bed with a good book to reap the benefits of stress relief and improved sleep quality (Brennan, 2021). If you’re a parent, consider checking out books for yourself as well as for your child(ren). When children see their parents reading, it models positive behavior around the act of reading; it shows children that reading is fun, important, and worth their time (McDonald, 2021).

During your family’s holiday break from school and work, try finding books that fit your interests and that you enjoy reading just for fun! If you’re not sure where to start, come visit your nearest library branch for help or suggestions from a librarian. You can also use our online recommendation tools. “Your Next Reads!” is our online book suggestion platform available at: warrenpl.org/ynr, and “Ask a Children’s Librarian” is our children’s recommendation and book bundle request service, available at: warrenpl.org/youth/ask/.

Do you have trouble visiting the library during this busy season? Try out our Door-to-Door service! One of our librarians will deliver your requests to your home or place of employment! Simply follow the instructions available on this page to request this service: warrenpl.org/delivery-sign-up/.

Warren County Public Library is hosting all kinds of programs and activities for patrons of all ages this winter. Check our events calendar frequently for storytimes, free movies at the Capitol, Santa visits, pottery classes and more: warrenpl.org/events.

We hope this season brings joy, peace, laughter and cherished memories for you and your family. We hope to see you at the library soon! Remember, “today a reader, tomorrow a leader!” -Margaret Fuller
