Well, Hoot, I am the Great Horned Owl. I am all over South Central Kentucky. The Great Horned Owls are in the tree limbs most of the day and they hunt during the night, but will hunt in the early morning or afternoon. They hunt for rabbits, rats, mice and other rodents or any animal they can overtake. The Great Horned Owl can fly at slow speeds with their broad wingspan up to five feet and capable of silent flight.
The Great Horned Owl nests in February and March. The female lays one to five eggs and the eggs hatch in 30 to 35 days.
You see the Great Horned Owls in the trees but you usually hear them first with their Hoot, Hoot, Hoot, Hoot, Hoot. The Great Horned Owl is a fascinating Bird of Prey.
