Habitat for Humanity originated on a small farm called Koinonia, located near Americus, Georgia. The significant impact we have today is largely due to the support and advocacy of President and Rosalynn Carter. Just under ten miles away lies the birthplace and residence of President Carter. In 1984, he began his collaboration with Habitat. Up until 2019, they hosted the Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Work Project, which has made a difference in countless lives globally. Although 2019 marked the last year President and Mrs. Carter could physically participate at the build site, they continued to support Habitat for Humanity’s mission through advocacy. Since 1984, the Carter Work Project has inspired over 108,000 volunteers to contribute to the construction, renovation, and repair of 4,447 homes across 14 countries.
Rodney Goodman (executive director of Habitat for Humanity Warren County) was privileged to be able to join President Carter on one of those projects in 2011 in Haiti. (see photo)
In honor of the late President Jimmy Carter, we recognize the countless doors the Carter Work Project helped open for thousands of Habitat for Humanity homeowners and the significant contributions that have paved the way for a brighter future for the past forty years.
A memorial-framed door from Habitat for Humanity Bowling Green/Warren County will be displayed at 813 College Street, Suite 401, Bowling Green, Kentucky 42101. We warmly invite our guests, customers, staff, and volunteers to honor President Jimmy Carter by signing the memorial with their names and a heartfelt message during business hours at Habitat for Humanity ReStore. Habitat for Humanity Bowling Green/Warren County is joining organizations worldwide in this tribute.
