For the past 13 years, the Housing Authority of Bowling Green – W.R.O.T.E. (We’re Reaching Out to Educate) Foundation, Inc. has been honoring local community leaders all for a great cause. The Annual W.R.O.T.E. Foundation, Inc. Roast & Toast has been a major annual fundraising event for the W.R.O.T.E. Foundation ensuring the continued services of providing academic assistance and developing great leaders for students K-12 throughout our community.
The W.R.O.T.E. mission is to provide for residents of south central Kentucky a positive and safe learning environment to develop the necessary tools to increase academic performance, leadership skills, and lifelong learning. Established in 1996 as part of the non-profit arm of the Housing Authority of Bowling Green, W.R.O.T.E. provides very low and low-income children the extra help they need to overcome their circumstances and succeed at education and life experiences. W.R.O.T.E. provides both after-school and summer programs. We serve public housing residents, those within a one-mile radius, and those referred by the school systems. Programs are targeted for students in grades kindergarten through 12 and are conducted in a positive and safe learning environment to develop the necessary tools to increase academic performance, leadership, and lifelong learning. After-school and summer programs provide educationally focused programming to reduce individual risk factors. W.R.O.T.E. students receive specialized academic and social skills training in group sessions and one on one to help reduce indicators of academic and social failure.
The W.R.O.T.E. After-School Program operates weekdays from 2:30 until 5:30 p.m. during the school year, providing individualized and group instruction based on grade level for students grades kindergarten through 12. With an academic objective, activities focus on reading and comprehension, math, science, social skills, and practical living.
This year’s Annual Roast & Toast will be honoring Mr. Jim “Scotty” Scott, President & CEO of Scotty’s Contracting & Stone, LLC. With the assistance of a steering committee, this year’s evening event will be filled with food, fun and a lot of roasting of Mr. Scott. As a part of the planning committee, Mr. Scott is graciously dedicating his time and resources in this great endeavor. With a monetary goal of $100,000, members of Scotty’s Contracting team, residents of the Olde Stone Development, staff of the Housing Authority of Bowling Green and other business leaders have worked tirelessly in planning an evening sure to bring out loyal supporters and friends of Mr. Scott who are looking forward to the opportunity to share stories (both good and bad).
The event will be held on Thursday, September 21, 2017, at the Holiday Inn University Plaza located at 1021 Wilkinson Trace, Bowling Green, KY 42103. Cocktail hour will begin at 6 p.m. and the menu for the evening will be heavy hors d’oeuvres. Individual tickets may be purchased for $75 at the Housing Authority of Bowling Green Main and Branch Offices, Scotty’s Contracting & Stone, LLC and both Hines Pharmacy locations.
