Our mission is building strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.
Habitat for Humanity of Bowling Green/Warren County believes that everyone deserves a decent place to live. We understand that children of homeowners are 116% more likely to graduate from college compared with children in families who do not own their own homes. Every day we see firsthand the impact that safe and affordable housing plays in creating positive outcomes in our homeowner’s lives.
To that end we have built more than 80 homes in our community. This year we will welcome three homebuyer families into their new homes.
We model a hand-up philosophy, assisting homebuyers in becoming strong, stable and self-reliant! We need your help as every hand makes a difference.
We are currently reviewing applications and will be selecting homebuyers for five homes we will be building in 2019 (which will be our 30th year of building homes, communities and hope in Bowling Green/Warren County). These townhomes will be part of our development at Durbin Estates, and we estimate construction to cost about $376,000. Every donation helps us get closer to our goal.
In addition, we plan to add infrastructure for approximately 23 more home sites and a community center in Durbin Estates. This project will enable us to serve 23 more homebuyers in our community. Infrastructure is very expensive! Each time we help someone experience the reality of owning their own home, we assist them in building strength, stability and self- reliance. And so when we build houses, we also build bridges between people of diverse backgrounds, we build paths to more connected communities, we build ways for all people to come together and share in the creation of a new world.
You have the opportunity to join with us, along with chef Josh Poling, at Hickory and Oak to support Habitat for Humanity at a “Brunch to Build” on Saturday, July 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. You can experience this fantastic new restaurant and help us raise needed funds to continue our work. See our ad in this issue of SOKY Happenings for details.
We have been privileged to become builders, not only of houses, but also of families, lives and hope!
