Approximately 5.7 million Americans are currently living with Alzheimer’s disease. With the population of older adults growing substantially, there’s never been a more pressing time to find a cure for this disease. This year, Village Manor of Bowling Green is joining the fight to raise funds and awareness about Alzheimer’s in hopes of discovering a cure.
Every year, the Alzheimer’s Association partners with over 600 communities across the country in the Walk to End Alzheimer’s, a global initiative that boosts Alzheimer’s awareness throughout communities and collects funds to sponsor further research, clinical trials and education and support for families and caregivers. The money raised during each Walk to End Alzheimer’s event goes to help those living with the disease, either directly through caregiver education and local support groups, or indirectly through research efforts to discover new prevention and treatment methods.
In addition to education, awareness and research, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s also sponsors local and national advocacy, ensuring that those living with the disease have a voice when it comes to protection and policy. The Alzheimer’s Association works with advocates to pass important legislation that protects those affected by dementia and emphasizes the urgency of the Alzheimer’s epidemic.
On the Front Lines of the Fight
At Village Manor, the fight to end Alzheimer’s hits close to home. As a Continuing Care Retirement Community, we provide care and lifestyle support to seniors living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of memory loss in our Bridgepointe at Village Manor community. Every day, our team works diligently to not only assist our memory care residents with daily tasks, but to offer compassion, comfort and engagement that increases their quality of life and fosters a safe environment for cognitive stimulation.
Although the Bridgepointe at Village Manor team is highly skilled and passionate about their mission in caring for those with Alzheimer’s, we would love to see the day when our services are no longer necessary. Our commitment to care is fueled by our desire to see a cure for the suffering and loss our residents and families experience throughout the Alzheimer’s journey. Our mission to support those with the disease, educate their families and continue to find the best practices in caregiving align with the goals of the Alzheimer’s Association, and we’re proud to partner with their cause through the Walk to End Alzheimer’s.
Continued Support
The 2018 Walk to End Alzheimer’s in Bowling Green will be on Saturday, September 8, with the Village Manor and the Christian Care Communities teams among the walkers. Together with residents, family members, staff and friends, Village Manor has raised funds to support the Alzheimer’s Association in honor of their memory care residents and loved ones affected by Alzheimer’s disease.
There is lots of work to do and plenty of ways the Bowling Green community can help support the Alzheimer’s Association year-round. In addition to donating to the Alzheimer’s Association, you can get involved by volunteering at a local senior center or spreading awareness about Alzheimer’s disease. Village Manor holds the Memory Keepers Support Group at our community on the third Tuesday of every month at 4:30 p.m., to teach caregivers and families about caregiving techniques, latest research findings, prevention and more.
If your loved one is one of the millions of seniors living with memory loss, reach out to Village Manor for support and to learn about our memory care services delivered with the world-renowned Best Friends Approach to care. Join our community of dedicated families and caregivers driven to provide the best care for those with memory loss. We’re hopeful that by next year, we’ll be even closer to a cure.
