We are all experiencing the challenges of the Coronavirus Crisis. But we will get through this together! And when we meet again, dentistry will have changed, too. Right now, dentists across the country are making preparations for the post-COVID world. Parents, take a minute to focus on how you will get your child through this time with the best chance at NO CAVITIES for your next dental checkup.
The SKY Pediatric Dentistry Team wanted to share their chalk art ideas with you.
Here’s what we want you to focus on during this time…
•Brush Twice a Day with a Fluoride-Containing Toothpaste. Kids miss A LOT when they brush teeth by themselves. Try to make at least one brushing event be a parent- or adult-led brushing. This is where you guide the toothbrush around and make sure not to miss the top of the upper front teeth and the cheek sides of the upper and lower molars.
•Floss it up! Floss helps remove food particles and debris from in between the teeth where your toothbrush cannot reach. Use a few minutes in the day to teach your kids how to floss! Consider flossing your child’s teeth AFTER brushing so that you can pull some of the fluoride-containing toothpaste down in between the teeth to add protection to these areas.
•Limit Snacking! I know it’s hard to avoid snacking when you and the kids are home all day. If you HAVE to snack, just snack and get it over with in a short period of time. We see a lot more decay in kids who sip juice and snack on treats for extended periods of time throughout the day.
Dental offices are all looking forward to the day when we can reopen and help our patients. Take a few extra steps now to ensure that your family has healthy teeth during this time away from routine dental appointments. It just takes a few minutes a day to have a much better chance at a lifetime of healthy smiles for you and your family!
