The Friends Of Nolin Lake (FONL) team has planned an amazing line-up of events for the 2021 season! Through offering activities allowing for distancing, well into summer, FONL is back and is ready to see you all at Nolin River Lake this year!
Paddle Nolin will be offered three times this lake season – May 22nd, July 24th and August 21st! Participants BYOB (Bring Your Own Boat) and launch from Wax and Dog Creek Recreation areas on a paddle guided by our friends at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
Summer Splash On Nolin Lake will look a little different for 2021 as a water-only event. Grab your boat and your friends and head over to Ponderosa Marina on June 12th from 3pm-8pm. There will be a boat-up food vendor, music and a fireworks show!
Wax Recreation Area is going to be the hot spot on July 10th for our ever-popular Family Fest On Nolin Lake. This event is full of family-friendly games and lunch promises to be another great way to spend the afternoon on the lake!
Ready to shop local products, eat local food and listen to some great music? On August 7th FONL returns to Moutardier Recreation Area for the Rex Hurt Memorial Nolin Fest from 3pm-dark. Food and product vendors can contact Hope Hawkins at events@friendsofnolinlake.org for applications.
Join us for our second Member Campout this year on September 17th-19th. We’ll be camping at Wax Campground. If you missed out in April, you have one more chance in 2021! Each FONL member is allowed to reserve one FREE campsite. We will offer group activities on Saturday night!
A large part of our mission is the preservation of Nolin River Lake. FONL will once again team up with the Nolin River Lake-U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Louisville District on September 18th to for the Annual Lakeshore Cleanup. Volunteers will meet at designated boat ramps to be ferried out to areas around the lake to collect trash. Trash bags and gloves are provided. Life jackets are required. We also need folks to volunteer their pontoon boats to help with dropping off and picking up volunteers.
Lace-up your sneakers or hiking boots or grease up the gears to your mountain bike because we’re hitting the trail at Brier Creek again this year for the Third Annual Brier Creek Trail-A-Thon on October 9th. The Trail-A-Thon is a fundraising event to provide improvements to the trails system at Brier Creek for biking, hiking and trail running. More details to come!
They’re all a little spooky and kooky and I’m not just talking about our FONL team! The Moutardier Monster Mash will be held at the Moutardier Campground on October 16th. Activities include a pumpkin decorating contest, campground decorating contest and costume contest – ending the night with trick or treating. Prizes will be awarded to the best of the best in each contest.
More details for each of these events will be published in our member newsletter, on our website (www.friendsofnolinlake.org) and on social media as they are available. For membership information contact membership@friendsofnolinlake.org.
