Along with the aging process comes a variety of options and choices each person must make for their future. One of the most important and difficult questions to tackle as they age is where they will live.

Though various circumstances go into deciding where to stay, the vast majority of seniors have a preferential location when it comes to enjoying their golden years.

They want to live at home.

According to the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP), 90% of seniors want to stay in their homes as they age. Even for those requiring day-to-day assistance or ongoing health care, 82% still prefer to live at home on a regular basis.

Those numbers speak volumes, and there so many reasons why sticking close to home is a valid option for seniors.

Being home brings with it a sense of familiarity. We all feel more secure being comfortable with our surroundings and, for seniors, that sense of comfort is no different. According to the AARP, “Consistency and familiarity are both key to ensuring happiness in our parents’ lives.”

That sense of familiarity also helps with anxiety seniors may feel about the future. In addition, the AARP says that allowing a parent to stay in their home lessens tensions regarding parent-child role reversals.

“When your parent is living at home, they are less likely to stray or become unhappy because they have chosen to stay home,” the AARP added.

And then there are finances, arguably one of the most significant reasons for staying at home as a senior. The AARP states that the average cost of a nursing home or assisted living facility can be more than $50,000 a year. And those numbers continue to climb.

At Timesavers, the desire for seniors to stay at home as they age is not only taken into consideration but remains the company’s most profound focus. They help seniors and their loved ones mitigate the entire process of keeping seniors both well cared for and independent.

Timesavers’ Grace at Home (GAH) program specifically focuses on the different levels of needed assistance that accompany the aging continuum.

“Our unique concept brings together a personal assistant model with a caregiving mentality,” Timesavers says. “We have crafted a program that allows people assistance with exactly what they need and leaves them room to remain independent and self-sufficient.”

Timesavers will help you see where you are in the continuum of care and map out a plan for each step of your journey.

“Keeping you or your loved one independent for as long as possible is the goal,” the company noted.

These “small touches of care” provided through GAH include:

•Wake-up/dress/medicine reminder

•Breakfast/medicine reminder

•Lunch/medicine reminder

•Laundry

•Shower visit/lotion/dress

•Tuck-in/medicine reminder

•Wellness check

•Companion visit

•Phone check-in

And that’s not all. Timesavers’ caregiving services extend beyond the GAH program. Customizable care – including personalized support from companionship to end-of-life care and 24/7 hands-on non-medical care – is offered from four to 24 hours with a twenty-hour weekly minimum.

Timesavers offers seniors the chance to receive at-home care without breaking the bank. For example, the average pricing for assisted living in Bowling Green with some level of support is approximately $4,500 a month. In Owensboro, the average cost is $3,100.

With Timesavers, you can receive support from 40% to 60% less than the average facility and get customized, one-on-one care at home.

There are countless reasons why the majority of seniors prefer to stay home as they age, and those reasons are incredibly valid. From home accessibility to finances to retaining one’s independence, there have never been more available options for keeping you or your loved one safe, cared for and happy at home.
