Joseph Ribkoff has been a leader in the fashion industry for over 65 years. It is a Canadian-based company, sold in over 60 international markets, Ribkoff’s clothing is known for a timeless, youthful style. He attributes not only his success, but longevity, to the company’s commitment to quality and distinctly-designed garments.
Ribkoff, son of immigrants, came from humble beginnings in Montreal. He left school at the tender age of 15 and found work in the garment industry. He worked his way up to shipping manager of Town And Country Wear. He decided to strike out on his own in 1957 with money he and his bride received as wedding gifts. He started as a dress manufacturer because in those days you either produced dresses or sportswear.
In the late 1960s, fueled by European influence (Kenzo was a favorite designer), he branched into sportswear. Pantsuits brought a younger aesthetic to his brand. Ribkoff has built his brand to include something for everyone – high quality, versatile and affordable fashions. Ribkoff is still known for its large selection of dresses, as well as separates and elegant evening wear. Along the way, Ribkoff has won many prestigious awards, including the Drapers fashion award for “Womenswear Brand of the Year.”
He describes the Ribkoff woman as young at heart. “If you want attention when you walk in the room – that’s us!” He constantly strives to take risks and bring ideas to his customers. He appeals to a broad age range, but really designs for women from age 30 to 80. “I love fashion, but I love people more,” Ribkoff adds.
In 2017, Novacap acquired a majority stake in his company, but Ribkoff is still the “face” of it. Eco-responsible fabrics and occasion wear are recent additions to his line.
Today, his legacy lives on through the work of a devoted, talented team operating worldwide.

“Through design, you’re giving a gift to someone. With that potential comes freedom of expression, and maybe that means trying something different.” – Joseph Ribkoff
