Small Town Christmas has been an event in Franklin for over 20 years. The first Saturday in December is a day of fun and celebration of the holiday season. We start about 10am with Santa and end the day with Christmas carols and the finale of lighting up the town square. Franklin doesn’t just light everything up at one time though. We start on the west side of the courthouse, and, section by section, the lights simultaneously come on all the way around the courthouse to the community tree, which is the finale. Our community tree was a new addition in 2019 and because of the help of local businesses and organizations, we were able to purchase the 18-foot beauty that sits on the corner of Main Street and Cedar Street. The community is invited each year to help decorate the tree by bringing a hand-decorated ornament to be hung during Small Town Christmas. All through the season, our square will have lots of spots perfect for those Christmas photos.
“Community involvement is very important to any small town and events such as Small Town Christmas really brings our families and friends together for a special day of fun, laughter, making memories and a little Christmas magic. There will be something for everyone to enjoy on this day. What can be more fun than Santa, train rides, hot chocolate, Christmas carols, lights, parades and, of course, we can’t forget, food!” says Kim Roberts, Executive Director of Franklin-Simpson Renaissance.
Our local restaurants will be open and food trucks will be on the square from 10am to 6pm. We have Lady Bugs Fritters and Fries, BBoy’s BBQ and more vendors with hot chocolate, popcorn and other treats. The local shops will be open all day so when you need to warm up, hit one of them and get some of that Christmas shopping done.
Bring your family and friends to Franklin on December 4th. Experience what our small town has to offer and all the fun we have at these special events.
