As we usher in 2022, it’s time to let go of some styles, keep what works and welcome fresh new looks. We have eased out of our sweatpants into sleek leather joggers. We have shown back up for weddings, celebrations and ”dressing to the nines.” The coming year will be all about transitioning, trying something new and being bold – especially in fashion.
It’s time to ditch shapeless, baggy clothing. Not to be traded for skintight, but a more defined shape – it’s as simple as adding a belt to the new voluminous dresses.
Don’t get rid of your skinny jeans, they still work beautifully with boots and a menswear blazer, but definitely add a wide-legged trouser (or two) to your closet. Try a cropped length or rock some bell bottoms again. Go big or go home!
Color plays a major role in the upcoming year. Pantone has named “very peri “ as the color of the year. According to Pantone, this violet-blue hue promises to bring “newness” to the year ahead. I think it’s safe to say we could all use a fresh start.
Sunny yellow made a strong statement on the runways. Find your best hue – if you have warm undertones, chose honey and butterscotch. Cool undertones – lemon and daffodil are for you.
Bold colors in unusual combinations prevail – yellow with violet, hot pink and cherry red, tangerine and kelly green.
Too much color for you? Never forget the power of monochromatic – all white or black is always chic.
Shake up your look with fringe. This trend seems to cycle in and out every couple years. High-end designers such as Burberry and Balmain featured fringe in their spring/summer 2022 collections.
Don’t forget your pearls. Ironically, we have Harry Styles and an Atlanta Braves baseball player to thank for making pearls ”cool.” A pearl necklace and earrings add sophistication to even a casual outfit.
Let’s make 2022 our boldest, brightest, happiest year of fashion to date. Wishing you and yours the happiest of New Years from your friends at Pappagallo.
