The Warren County Public Library offers a wealth of online resources to patrons. Many patrons may be familiar with our digital content such as ebooks, eaudiobooks, and informational databases. But our librarians also offer several free personalized services that you may request right from our web site! These include Root and Twig (a genealogy service), Ask a Children’s Librarian, Door-to-Door Delivery, and Home Delivery services. (Add Ask a Librarian Live Chat)
Root and Twig: Warren County, Kentucky Genealogy is an extension of our online genealogy databases. You can send a request to Root and Twig, and a librarian who specializes in genealogy will research your genealogy question to the best of their ability. This staff member knows search criteria to find the answers to your questions that you may not be familiar with or may not have time to research. You may have already done a lot of your family research and need a second set of eyes to see something you might be missing, a link to connect the family you’re certain belong in your family tree. The librarian will contact you by phone or email to ask questions to help narrow their search and get back to you in a timely manner.
This service is found under the Books, Movies, Music… option from our menu. Select Online Databases from the dropdown menu, choose the Genealogy box, and this will lead you to the page where you can select our Root and Twig option. The Root and Twig page has the link for the Genealogy Request, where you can fill out your information and questions to send to the genealogist librarian. You may also access the Root and Twig page from the Library Services page under the Using the Library Menu.
Ask a Children’s Librarian offers parents an opportunity to discuss book recommendations, children’s services offered by the library, databases, book bundles and children’s programming with a librarian specializing in children’s services. This is a great service for parents and caregivers who have difficulty finding the books or programs that excite their children. Our children’s librarian can help you choose books to get your child reading or programs that will get them excited about learning.
This service is found under the Kids and Youth option from our menu. When you click on the Ask a Children’s Librarian option, it will take you to a page where you can fill out your request for a chat, and a children’s librarian will help you with your request.
Also under our Kids and Youth option is Educational Delivery Services. This is a service we provide for teachers and schools. We have a team of youth services librarians who help teachers through this program by creating accounts that will allow teachers to check out items for their classrooms for specific lessons. These items are taken to the schools by our youth services librarian. This service also includes visits to schools by our bookmobile.
Door to Door offers patrons the opportunity to request items and have them delivered to their home or workplace. This service is different from Home Delivery, which supplies library materials to patrons who cannot come to the library in person. Door to Door is perfect for parents of small children who find it difficult to come to the library. When it’s too cold or too hot to bring your children to the library, if you don’t have time to come in and look for books, or if you’ve got too many young ones to try to keep wrangled, Door to Door services could be the perfect solution. Our library will contact you and discuss your needs and help pull books that will keep your kids reading and learning without making the trip to the library.
This service is found under the Using the Library option from our menu. After you select the Door to Door option, you’ll be taken to the page where you can find out how to order items through Door to Door. Once you’ve filled out your request, a delivery librarian will contact you to schedule a dropoff for your items.
The library also has a live Ask A Librarian chat service that is available when the library is open. This service is manned by the reference staff. Anyone can send in a question through the chat portal and the reference staff will answer the question to the best of their ability and in a timely manner.
This service is also found under the Using the Library option from our menu and found at the bottom of that list with the title, “Live Help Chat.”
