There is always something to do in Franklin’s Downtown Historic District but in June, July, and August, the square comes to life with the Summer Nights Concert Series. The concerts are on various Friday nights and feature some of the hottest bands around. The series of free music is hosted by Franklin-Simpson Renaissance. Our 2022 sponsors are Simpson County Tourism and Franklin Bank & Trust Company. Summer Nights Concerts are family friendly, and the kids even have their own dance floor. The first concert kicks off on June 3 and the series will run through the end of August.
“Our beautiful courtyard is the perfect setting for the free concert series,” said Kim Roberts, Executive Director of Franklin-Simpson Renaissance. “We hand-pick these bands each year and strive to book music that everyone can enjoy. What better way to spend an evening than under the stars listening to great music?”
The concerts are held on the lawn of the Simpson County Courthouse beginning at 7pm and wrap up around 9pm. Lawn chair rental is available. Come to town hungry because between the local restaurants and food trucks, you can always find something tasty to enjoy. The Brandon Harris Band from Nashville leads off this year’s series on June 3, Jimmy Church on June 17, Andy and the Rockers on June 24, Sidewinders on July 8, CDock Boyz on July 22, Buelers Day Off on July 29, Tyrone Dunn and Kin-foke on August 12, and The Randy Nations Band on August 19.
“Come to Franklin a little early and take in some shopping at one of the downtown merchants.” Mrs. Roberts said. “We have some great shops offering local art, home goods, clothing and accessories, sporting goods, candy, ice cream and much more.”
There are several events planned to coincide with the concert schedule this summer. The F-S Chamber of Commerce will host the Garden Spot ½ Mile Kids Run on August 12 before the Sidewinders play. The Run is a kick-off event for the Garden Spot 5K Run/Walk on Saturday morning. The downtown merchants will be having a Downtown Block Party on July 29 before Buelers Day Off takes the stage, and on August 19th the Fall Crawl Shopping Event will be in full swing. The Randy Nations Band will begin the wind-down of the season on August 19, but the final music event of the summer will be all afternoon August 27 for the Summer Vibes Music Festival. “This will be the second year for Summer Vibes, and we expect it to be even bigger than 2021,” Mrs. Roberts said. The festival will feature Rayland Baxter and Nappy Roots along with other regional and local artists. Food trucks, beer gardens and art will be around all day long.
