A note from a caregiver:
“Thank you for the compassionate care Hospice of Southern Kentucky provided to my mother in the final days of her life. Staying at the Hospice House allowed us to just be her family and not have to worry about pain management and care. Please continue to provide this kind of care in our community. It is much needed.”
Hospice of Southern Kentucky is in its 41st year of serving the community and we are grateful to those who saw a need for home hospice care in the early 1980’s and brought Hospice of Southern Kentucky to life. Without their persistence, expertise and commitment to providing South Central Kentuckians with a comfort treatment option, we would not be here today with 41 years of history in the community.
Our mission at Hospice of Southern Kentucky is to honor life through exceptional service and compassionate care. A terminal diagnosis is never easy to accept, but having a specialized medical team to coordinate care 24/7 (even on the weekends) is comforting and the care is empowering!
Individuals receiving hospice care can still live life! Hospice of Southern Kentucky patients can participate in all of the events, celebrations and vacations they would have before starting hospice care. We exist to give the individual back control of their life by relieving pain, providing spiritual and emotional support, and empowering families to enjoy their time together. Patients can stay at home to receive comfort treatments rather than making exhausting trips back and forth to the hospital.
Hospice of Southern Kentucky also offers Kid’s Care both with home hospice care and inpatient at the Hospice House. Our Kid’s Care program helps families find strength when their child faces a serious illness. We take care of getting the family set up at home with all the supplies they will need and are available 24/7 for calls and visits. Our team creates a unique care plan specific to each child. Our goal is to enable children to do what they love for as long as they can.
The most frequent feedback from individuals and families is they wish they would have elected hospice sooner. The goal of hospice is to ensure the individual is physically and emotionally comfortable. To continue our mission of honoring life in hospice care, we rely on revenue raised through our Lotus Award Gala to support what Hospice of Southern Kentucky provides annually in free, un-reimbursed patient care and services.
Hospice of Southern Kentucky is thrilled to bring you the Lotus Award Gala on September 17th at the Sloan Convention Center where we will celebrate the programs and services offered through Hospice of Southern Kentucky, but also to honor a visionary leader throughout the community doing extraordinary things to make South Central Kentucky a better place to live and work. With this award, we showcase excellence in leadership as demonstrated by outstanding initiative, impact of work and inspiration to others.
This year’s Lotus Award recipient is Mr. Steve Wheeler of Chandler Real Estate. Steve’s been an integral part of the community all his life, and through his work both in his career and philanthropy, he has made Bowling Green and beyond a better place to be. If you talk to anyone who knows Steve Wheeler, they will undoubtedly tell you, “There’s no better person than Steve.” Hospice of Southern Kentucky is grateful for Steve’s advocacy for our organization over the years and is proud to celebrate him with the Lotus Award this year.
The Lotus Award Gala will begin with a reception at 5:30pm, followed by dinner and the program, including a live and silent auction to benefit the programs and services offered through Hospice of Southern Kentucky. This elegant evening is a black-tie optional affair and the fall event you don’t want to miss!
