As we reach the end of our 50th anniversary year, there are still two free opportunities to visit Riverview at Hobson Grove Historic House Museum and celebrate the holiday season in grand Victorian style. Make plans to join us Wednesday, November 30, 10am-6pm for our Christmas Marketplace. Browse a selection of clothing, jewelry, home décor, art, and seasonal arrangements offered by vendors stationed throughout the beautifully decorated mansion. Don’t forget to check out Riverview’s gift shop and bake sale in the basement. Vendors include The Garden Patch, Barbara Stewart Interiors, Merle Norman, Candle Makers on the Square, Daron Frazier Art & Floral Design, Sterlings Fine Jewelry, Runaway Love Designs Jewelry, Dixieland Boutique, and Tin Roof Coffee. George Anna McKenzie, a descendant of the Hobson family, will be signing copies of her cookbook, “Company’s Comin,” available for purchase in our meeting room. Admission is free.
After a two-year pandemic hiatus, we are so proud to announce the return of our Christmas Candlelight Tour. On Saturday, December 10, 4:30pm-7:30pm, you are invited to learn about a traditional Victorian Christmas celebration as you move throughout the old Hobson House, beautifully lit by candles and antique lamps. Our costumed docents will take you back in time as they explain the holiday traditions that would have taken place in each room. Our gift shop will be open, souvenir photographs of your party will be available for purchase, and refreshments will be served in our meeting room. Parking will be available at the ball field and golf course parking lots with shuttles provided to Riverview. Donations appreciated.
We are grateful to the members of our community who visited Riverview throughout the year to take part in our Golden Anniversary celebrations. It has been a great honor to share this historical treasure with the public for the past fifty years. There is still time to take advantage of our regularly scheduled tours before we close for the winter. Tours are given on the hour, Tuesday-Saturday, 10am-3pm and Sunday, 1-3pm. Our museum will close after the Candlelight Tour on December 10, reopening Tuesday, March 7, 2023.
