Christmas in a small town like Franklin, Kentucky means hot chocolate, lights, Christmas caroling, parades and, we can’t forget, visits with Santa Claus! Small Town Christmas is presented by Franklin-Simpson Renaissance and has been an event in Franklin for over 20 years now. It’s always the first Saturday of December and each year brings a little more excitement with more lights, more decorations and more fun. Photo opportunities are scattered throughout the square all season long. On December 3rd, the day will begin around 1pm with a Santa Claus meet-and-greet and free train rides on the Toyland Express. Throughout the day there will be caroling, dancers, live music, food trucks, s’more-making stations, hot chocolate and more. The annual Kiwanis Christmas parade is at 4pm with a theme this year of “Winter Nights & Magical Lights.” The community tree and whole downtown lighting will be at 5:30pm. The community tree was added in 2019. Because of the help from local businesses and organizations, Franklin was able to purchase an 18-foot tree that stands on the corner of Main Street and Cedar Street. The community is invited each year to help decorate the tree by bringing hand-decorated ornaments to be hung during Small Town Christmas.
“Small Town Christmas is Franklin’s way of drawing the community together for the sole purpose of celebrating the holidays. Community involvement is very important to any small town and events such as Small Town Christmas really brings families and friends together for a special day of fun, laughter, making memories and a little Christmas magic. There will be something for everyone to enjoy,” says Kim Roberts, Executive Director of Franklin-Simpson Renaissance.
Local restaurants will be open their normal holiday hours and food trucks will be on the square from 1pm to 7pm. The local shops will be open all day so when you need to warm up, visit one of them and get some of that Christmas shopping done.
Bring your family and friends to Franklin on December 3rd. Experience what this small town has to offer and all the fun to be had at these special events.
