A note from our Director, Trevor Edwards
Bringing The Nutcracker to the stage in Glasgow has felt so necessary to my vision for SOMA. The long-standing tradition surrounding The Nutcracker is centered on community and tradition, two staple words that come to mind when I consider Glasgow, KY. Our Nutcracker presents a fresh, ambitious outlook on this well-known ballet that Glasgow can now call its own!
The Nutcracker invites you to follow Clara outside the traditional confines of space and time. We are carried into her wildest dreams, where becoming a princess and dancing with flowers is her reality. We want this community to know that when you follow your dreams, there is nothing you cannot do! My goal for SOMA is to help make dreams come true for the youth of Glasgow by reminding dancers that anything is possible. I am grateful each day that I get to spend with these students. I am so blessed by the talent, respect and astounding artistry that each member of this youth company brings to the stage.
SOMA provides four community shows a year as our concert dance outlet and we attend four dance conventions/competitions a year to help develop our commercial dance style. Our studio prides itself on diversity, versatility, inclusion and authenticity. We want to develop thinking artists who are ready to take on any career, whether it be in dance or any other profession. Join us for our spring class schedule beginning January 9th. The Nutcracker: December 17th & December 18th at The Plaza Theater! The Nutcracker boasts original choreography by Artistic Director Trevor Edwards and SOMA’s artistic team to the traditional story of The Nutcracker set to the classical score by Tchaikovsky. This is a holiday treat for the entire family and a new tradition for the Barren County and South Central Kentucky community! Support local artists and attend local art!
