There is misconception that cellulite forms from being overweight, however, that’s not always the case; even thin people may struggle with dreaded dimpling. And as much as we would love to be able to exercise cellulite away, it just doesn’t work that way. Cellulite forms when fibrous bands that attach the skin to the underlying muscles tighten irregularly. This shortening of these bands pulls down on the skin and the normal fat layer beneath pushes upward. This results in a puckered appearance of the skin, also known as dimpling.
The Avéli procedure is relatively quick and minimally invasive. It is performed in a single treatment session under local anesthesia by one of our trained physicians or nurse practitioners. The procedure typically lasts no longer than one hour from start to finish, and the result is long-term reduction in the appearance of cellulite. The most common side effects are mild pain within the first 24 hours and bruising and tenderness to the touch which typically resolves within two weeks. Patients may return to normal activities within one day of treatment.
