Friends of the Kiwanis Club of Glasgow, we have a wonderful announcement! We are once again hosting our annual charity golf scramble and this year we are upping the stakes!
The 28th Annual James Barton Glasgow Kiwanis Club Golf Tournament will be held Saturday, September 30th, 2023 at the Fox Hollow Golf Club. The funds generated by this project provide clothing to the disadvantaged and needy children of this community at Christmas, as well as our scholarships given to two Barren County High School Seniors and two Glasgow High School Seniors in 2024.
All proceeds from this tournament are donated to our annual Christmas shopping and to our scholarship fund, both which help children in need from the Glasgow community. Over the last 10 years, the Kiwanis Club has provided over $150,000 to the youth of Glasgow/Barren County. This is all due to your generous support over the years. With our 2023 charity scramble, we’re hoping to change the lives in a much greater impact for the foreseeable future.
Many of you may not know what the Kiwanis Club represents for our community. Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to changing one child’s life at a time, and one community at a time. Who are these volunteers, you may ask? These groups of individuals are comprised of anyone who can be a role model in a child’s life, such as a parent, family member, friend or even a member of a Kiwanis Club. Children tend to mimic their role models, so how the role model acts in different situations impacts how that child will act in similar situations in the future.
Much of the learning during childhood is gained through observation and imitation. The role models who children look up to help shape how those children behave in school, in their relationships and when making decisions.
Good role models are essential for teaching children right from wrong, how to behave and how to become respectful, responsible adults. However, there are bad role models who teach children negative behavior like laziness, disrespect or even steer children into illegal activity.
Since many children look up to athletes, actors, musicians and other celebrities as their role models, it’s important to have conversations with your child about why they look up to these people. Make sure your child admires their role models for the right reasons. The most important thing a parent can do is make sure they are a positive role model for their own child. If you are a good, honest, respectable person then you will be providing your child with a positive role model every day of their life.
You can act as a positive role model for children in your community and impact their lives by joining your local Kiwanis club. Kiwanis clubs look at the needs of children in their community and decide on projects that will benefit local kids the most. By joining a local Kiwanis club, you’ll be joining a global community of clubs, members and partners dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time.
This mission that the Kiwanis Club of Glasgow has strived to follow since our chartering in 1967 has built the club into an organization of some of the most recognizable faces in the Glasgow community, and with these individuals, they have selflessly throughout the years, volunteered countless hours and asking nothing in return; with much joy resulting in hundreds, if not thousands of children within Glasgow Kentucky that have had their lives changed due to Kiwanis. Our club shall always strive to be the best role models for the youth of Glasgow, and through our events such as this charity golf scramble, the Kiwanis Club of Glasgow shall once again be able to support those youth who are needing wonderful and aspiring role models! There is another generation of youth who are needing those positive influences who they will aspire to look up to daily, those that they can come to with any life advice, a person within their community who will be there for them!
If you would like to know more about the mission of Kiwanis International, wanting to learn how to support our club, wanting to volunteer to make a difference, or even wanting to see what the Kiwanis is about, please reach out to your local Kiwanis club today to get involved!
