Boofest has been a free Halloween tradition in Franklin for over 15 years. It has grown over time to become an event that attracts thousands of kids to our downtown each October. Our town is decorated for fall the first week of October and when Boofest day comes towards the end of the month, the square will be filled with pumpkins, cute little spooks, candy, and lots of interactive activities. “The event is organized by Franklin-Simpson Renaissance and sponsored by multiple non-profit organizations, which is how it has grown so much,” said Kim Roberts, Executive Director of Franklin-Simpson Renaissance.
The Agtivities Street is sponsored by the Simpson County Ag Awareness Committee and will include interactive agriculture-related games, a petting zoo, and pony rides. Kids will even get to milk a cow! The Costume Contest is sponsored by Franklin-Simpson Community Arts Council and organized by Franklin-Simpson Renaissance. There are cash prizes for the different categories, one of which is for our furry friends. The Haunted Scavenger Hunt is sponsored by the Simpson County Fair Board. This has been a favorite each year because it is designed to be a family fun trail with just a few scary aspects. It will test your knowledge of the downtown square area.
This will be the third-year local businesses have come together to give the kids a safe place to Trick or Treat before Halloween. They will be set up under tents around the courthouse lawn handing out candy. Multiple food vendors will be on the square during the event selling hot dogs, hamburgers, ice cream, and other festival goodies.
“Boofest is just one of the many free events Franklin has for its community each year. Our community is growing and so are our events. Franklin is very fortunate to have so many organizations committed to doing whatever it takes to give kids and families opportunities to have free fun in a safe environment,” stated Roberts.
