Warren County Public Library endeavors to inform, entertain, educate, and inspire. From author lectures and book discussion groups to craft activities and family events, our schedule this month is another one full of activities geared just for those purposes!
Let’s begin with our featured author events (free tickets are available at warrenpl.org/events):
•Author, podcaster Kate Bowler, Friday, February 9 at 6pm, at SKyPAC As featured in last month’s SOKY Happening’s article, Kate Bowler is a three-time New York Times best-selling author who also hosts an award-winning podcast entitled “Everything Happens.” WCPL will host her presentation at SKyPAC and give away copies of her latest book, Have a Beautiful Terrible Day, to the first 300 in attendance.
•Author Gwenda Bond, Sunday, February 25 at 3pm, Bob Kirby Branch Gwenda is a New York Times bestselling author and a Kentucky native. She will discuss her new magical art heist novel, The Frame-Up. She penned a number of romantic comedies as well, including Not Your Average Hot Guy, The Date from Hell, and Mr. & Mrs. Witch, among many others.
The library hosts weekly programs for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers every week, as well as special activities for various ages each month. Family events, geared for parents or caregivers and children of all ages are particularly popular. These activities are among those featured this month:
•Annual My Girl Dance: Sneaker Ball Edition, Friday, February 2, 6pm-8:30pm, Buchanon Park Branch (Preschool-8th grade) This free dance is for dads, uncles, grandfathers and father figures to dance the night away with your favorite girl! Co-sponsored w/Warren County Parks & Recreation.
•Critter Crush, Tuesday, February 13, 5 pm, Lisa Rice Library Learn about unique wildlife native to Kentucky and meet some up close. Go to warrenpl.org/events to register, or reach out to dulces@warrenpl.org for more information.
•Love N Smores, Wednesday Feb. 14, 6pm, Bob Kirby Branch Join us for a fun Valentine’s-theme special! We will have crafts, activities and games for all ages, and s’mores to-go. Go to warrenpl.org/events to register, or reach out to meganl@warrenpl.org for more information.
•Lights Out At the Grove, Monday February 26, 5pm, Smiths Grove Branch Have you ever been to the library with the lights out? Now you (safely) can, with fun glow-in-the-dark games and crafts for the whole family. Go to warrenpl.org/events to register, or reach out to haleyl@warrenpl for more information.
Adult programs are also offered monthly, and craft programs are particularly well-attended. While some programs are free, others require a nominal fee (NOTE: if this would prohibit you from attending, contact the program coordinator), and registration is required. •Get Crafty: Make a Heart Wreath Pom-poms are a fun and whimsical item for making decor. Learn to make a pom-pom heart wreath, the perfect Valentine’s Day decoration! Go to warrenpl.org/events and register for one of the following dates:

•Bookish Times: Tea & TBRs, Tuesday, February 20, 5pm, Buchanon Park Branch Drink and spill some tea while creating a TBR (“To Be Read”) jar, perfect for collecting new release titles and anticipated reads for the months to come. •DIY Hand Warmers, Wednesday, February 21, 3pm, HOTEL INC Warm your body and heart this wintry season with these DIY hand warmers! With simple ingredients and easy steps, we will teach you how to make hand warmers that will last you for many winters to come. Finally, there are a number of book clubs that meet regularly throughout the year at the library; new members are welcomed at any time!
•KIRB Appeal Book Club, Monday February 5, 6pm, Bob Kirby Branch This group typically discusses adult fiction novels. This month’s selection is Dark Hours by Michael Connelly. The group meets every other month.
•Great Books, Wednesday, February 14, 12pm, Lisa Rice Library This group discusses short stories or essays. This month’s selection is “Gryphon,” by Charles Baxter. The group meets monthly on the the second Tuesday of each month.
•DIVAS Book Club, Monday, February 19, 5pm, Smiths Grove Branch This group typically discusses adult fiction novels. This month’s selection is Our Missing Hearts by Celetse Ng. The group meets each month on the third Monday to discuss a new book.
•Pardon My Youth Book Club, Tuesday, February 27, 6pm, Lisa Rice Library This is an adult book discussion group that discusses YA (Young Adult) novels. This month’s discussion will focus on period pieces. The group meets monthly.
