Village Manor celebrates first annual Nurturing Our Nurses event!
We love our Bowling Green community and wanted to show our appreciation to the nurses who work diligently to take care of us, so… on March 26th we opened our doors to all nurses, new graduates, seasoned professionals, and those who have retired from the profession. Nurses received free massages, manicures, vitamin B-12 shots, door prizes, great food, giveaways and so much more. The event was completely free to attend and open to all nurses, not just our staff at Village Manor.
Chris Minnich, Executive Director of Village Manor, shares, “Nurses are the backbone of our healthcare system. They often work long hours, and this was an opportunity to simply say thank you to all nurses in the community and encourage a day of relaxation.” A day of relaxation is exactly what we had at Village Manor, as nurses went home feeling pampered, both physically and mentally. The goal of this annual event is not only an opportunity to show appreciation to our healthcare heroes, but also to raise awareness about the importance of self-care in the demanding field of nursing.
Mary Lynn Spalding, CEO of Christian Care Communities, said, “This year our organization celebrates 140 years of service to seniors across Kentucky. An essential part of the care we provide, and the care provided in the community overall, often comes from nurses. During the pandemic everyone recognized the importance of nurses and the sacrifices they made; we feel that sacrifice should be remembered every year, not just in crisis situations.”
At the celebration, Village Manor staff and volunteers were able to meet amazing community members and allow them to put their feet up and take a breath. Director of Nursing, Donna Howard, said, “I am a nurse and have made nursing a career for over 28 years. I have been here at Village Manor for 18 years and I have worked with some amazing nurses. These nurses take care of people at their most vulnerable times in life – whether it is a fearful time while recovering from a stroke or a fall, or holding someone’s hand while they take their last breath – nurses are so vital to every member of the community. As nurses we provide care, and we often forget to care for ourselves. This event was all about self-care and to remind each of us that when we take care of ourselves, we can continue to provide exceptional care to others.”
Village Manor hopes that our heartfelt “THANK YOU” made a small difference to all those who work tirelessly to take care of others. This event helps us showcase our gratitude to our Bowling Green community and to all the nurses wherever they work.
