To encourage Goldfinches into your backyard, plant native thistle and other composite plants, as well native milkweed. Almost any kind of bird feeder may attract American Goldfinches, including hoppers, platform and hanging feeders.

The female does not turn yellow as the males, but will travel and eat at the same time. These are the only male birds that change colors twice a year.
These birds do migrate in our area but usually only travel a short distance, because our climate is very good for the American Goldfinch. Watch for these Goldfinches in your yard because they are the only birds that can feed upside down – yes, upside down. When you see the Goldfinch in your yard, you will be amazed at their color and the activity at your feeders.
