In addition to great gaming, excellent food and live concerts… in late August and early September live horse racing comes to Kentucky Downs in Franklin, Kentucky. For seven days you can experience the majesty and excitement of live horse racing.
This year’s dates for racing at Kentucky Downs are August 29th and 31st, September 1st, 5th, 7th, 8th and 11th. Kentucky Downs hosts one of the most exclusive thoroughbred horse racing meets in North America. From a VIP experience at the Finish Line to free tailgating and General Admission on the final turn and stretch, Kentucky Downs provides a unique experience.
Kentucky Downs is home to America’s only European-style (all turf) racecourse, and at one mile and five-sixteenths in length, it is one of the longest tracks in the nation. Unlike other racetracks, which are typically oval, the course at Kentucky Downs is kidney-shaped, featuring undulation and a unique right-hand bend. The track’s average field size of about 11 horses per race also tops America, which, combined with the lowest overall betting “takeout,” has made Kentucky Downs the top-rated track by the Horseplayers Association of North America.
In addition to live racing this month, don’t miss the other great entertainment options at Kentucky Downs including Jason Boland & The Stragglers at The Mint Event Center at Kentucky Downs on Saturday, August 24th at 8pm for his 25th Anniversary Tour! Top Hits include “Somewhere Down in Texas” and “Proud Soul”! For the past 25 years, Jason Boland & the Stragglers have dazzled audiences all over as one of the leading ambassadors of the Oklahoma and Texas music movement. Tickets start at $29 and you must be 21+ to purchase tickets and attend the concert. Prices are subject to applicable fees and taxes. Doors open at 7pm on the night of the concert.
