See history come to life in the WKU Theatre & Dance production of Henry V

Shakespeare’s greatest history comes to life as you’ve never seen it before in Western Kentucky University Theatre’s production of Henry V! As the former slacker prince embarks on the first major endeavor as king – an invasion of France to claim territory that once belonged to their ancestors – he must wrestle with the heavy burden of responsibility and what it truly means to be a monarch. King Henry navigates the highs of early victories, the lows of an illness-depleted army with little morale, and the reality of being so outnumbered that each day could be their last. When everything comes to a head at the Battle of Agincourt, will they be able to summon up the courage to lead their troops and pull off one of the greatest military upsets in history?

The WKU Department of Theatre & Dance presents Henry V by William Shakespeare.

This production translates the action of the play into a high school English classroom, inviting audience members to return to Shakespeare right where they left him years ago. A weary high school teacher takes on the role of the Chorus and ignites the power of her students’ imaginations by encouraging them to bring the story to life in real-time. Using the architecture of the room – desks, tables, chairs – this people-powered production constructs each distinct environment in the play right before your very eyes. And once the imaginations of the class take over, who knows what other kinds of theatrical magic might be in store…

This production will feature a special school performance for groups of middle and high school students at a steeply discounted rate. To set up your group’s attendance at this one-day-only event or to inquire about pricing, please email the Theatre & Dance office at theatredanceoffice@wku.edu.
