Pappagallo – Dreaming of spring!

by Nicki Smith

The snow is blanketing South Central Kentucky as I write this, but I am dreaming of spring fashions. The boxes are arriving daily filled with new frocks transporting me to warmer, sunnier days ahead. Let me share with you what you can expect to see for spring 2018.

Connect the Dots

Spring typically brings floral prints to mind, but black and white polka dots dominated the runways.

Transparency

Sheer fabrics, leaving little to the imagination, were featured in every collection. The key here is layering.

Ruching

Designers added structure this season with ruching. This subtle gathering of fabric acts as a corset, but is much more comfortable.

Trench Dressing

The classic trench coat was reinvented in new ways. Contemporary updates are ruffles, sleeveless silhouettes, and different fabric combinations.

Pretty in Pastels

It’s the Easter egg parade, with lavender almost edging out pink. Mint, ice blue and soft yellow also came to the party.

On the Fringe

If fringe is not your thing, spring 2018 may be a problem for you. Some designers used it sparingly, while others went wild with multicolors and layers of fringe.

Feather Your Nest

Feathers floated down the runways light as air. Some were used as accents, others were the star of the show – take your pick , they won’t weigh you down.

On a Clear Day

Garments fashioned out of clear plastic showed up on the catwalk in Paris. Chanel filled its spring collection with an assortment of PVC rain gear – coats, hats, boots and totes. If it’s good enough for Chanel…

Season to Shine

In a whimsical season, sequins were bound to make an appearance. These shiny discs transformed everyday ordinary to extraordinary.

Candy Stripes

Stripes were everywhere. Many were engineered diagonally or vertically. Stripes elongate the leg, draw the eye upward and create standout looks. What’s not to love?

Crayola Brights

I know I already told you about the pastel trend, but vivid hues were also predominant. Primary colors show off fashion at its most confident. The most important way to wear these hues is monochromatically or color-blocked – pink/red, orange/yellow – be brave!

Spring 2018 is shaping up to be fun and frivolous with color choices for all. Please visit Pappagallo today to see what is new in clothing and accessories.
