Graves Gilbert Clinic... Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month... Prevention is power.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month, and CRC often develops without symptoms, making regular screenings essential. A colonoscopy is the most effective way to detect and remove precancerous polyps, stopping cancer before it starts. For those at average risk, screenings should begin at age 45, but individuals with a family history or other risk factors may need earlier testing.

“Preventative care is one of the most powerful tools in medicine,” says Dr. Fielding. “By staying proactive with screenings and lifestyle choices, we can dramatically reduce the risk of colorectal cancer.”

Dr. Fielding believes that healthcare should be personal and empowering. “Every patient’s journey is different, and my role is to guide them with knowledge, options, and support,” he explains. His expertise extends beyond colorectal cancer prevention – he is also passionate about esophageal cancer awareness, particularly in detecting and treating Barrett’s Esophagus, a condition linked to chronic acid reflux.

A healthy digestive system starts with small, daily habits. Dr. Fielding encourages patients to:

✔ Eat fiber-rich foods (fruits, vegetables, whole grains)

✔ Stay hydrated

✔ Exercise regularly

✔ Manage stress

✔ Avoid smoking and excess alcohol

✔ Prioritize sleep

✔ Stay current with screenings

“If something feels off, don’t ignore it,” he advises. “Early action is key to long-term health.”

Committed to Bowling Green

A Western Kentucky University graduate, Dr. Fielding and his wife, Katie, returned to Bowling Green after a decade of medical training to raise their three children, Chandler (age 13), Lyla (age 11), and Hannah (age 8).  They love being part of the BG community and are members at Lost River Church of Christ. When their kids are not participating in sports or a school play, they are often out enjoying the natural beauty of Kentucky at Barren River Lake or the surrounding areas. Outside of work, he enjoys exploring Kentucky’s natural beauty and spending time at NCM Motorsports Park, where he’s been a proud Driving Club member since 2020.
