The Kentucky Derby is always the first Saturday in May, making the 151st running on May 3rd, 2025.
The first question asked is, “What are we supposed to wear?” Derby fashion is full of life with bright, happy colors and a balance of classic color staples. We know the HAT is the most important piece of Derby fashion. At Prim & Brim, we have everything from statement hats to at-home party fascinators.
For those experiencing Derby at Churchill, selecting an appropriate headpiece can correlate to the location of your seats. The upper-level seating, the bigger the hat and more creative the purse. Wearing a hat is all about confidence. Show no fear, and have fun! If you want to repurpose your hat or change up the look of one you bought previously, Prim & Brim offers a “Feather Bar” with so many wonderful colors and styles.
If you are staying at home or hosting a small gathering, the headpiece is still an essential. You can choose any size hat or a small fascinator. If you want to skip the heels, grab a pair of Derby-themed socks for yourself and your guests. They make a great gift for men or women, and you will be fully accessorized from head to toe, literally!
Your party isn’t complete unless you have Mint Julep cups and mixers, bourbon cherries and a flavor variety of bitters for the old-fashioned drinks. Derby tea towels, table runners, placemats, and coasters add to the atmosphere.
Let’s also recognize the gentlemen and their contribution. The men dress up as much as the ladies to celebrate this great time in Kentucky. We have coordinating Derby ties, socks, and accessories to complete the look so your “couple photo “will be Facebook- and Instagram-perfect!
Whether you are going to Churchill, a country club, or an at-home party, it’s exciting to celebrate this beautiful time in our state. It’s also a great time to pick up any Derby, Kentucky, or Equestrian-themed gifts while the pop-up is in season.
