Lilly Pulitzer, the colorful iconic brand, has a continuing presence in Bowling Green at Pappagallo. Lilly appeals to many generations of rule-breaking sun followers. The brand happened by accident in 1959, when Lilly (McKim) Pulitizer, a Palm Beach socialite, was bored. Her husband, Peter, owned citrus groves, so she decided to open a juice stand. The business was a success, but squeezing oranges, lemons, limes and grapefruits made a mess of her clothing. She had her dressmaker come up with a dress to disguise the stains. The Lilly shift dress was born. The colorful cotton dresses proved to be more popular than the juice.
Lilly Pulitzer became a fashion sensation. The label today is more popular than ever and continues to create authentic printed styles straight from the in-house print design studio.
