Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ. The name Christmas comes from the Mass of Christ. A Mass service (often called Communion) is where Christians remember that Christ died for our sins and was resurrected. The “Christ-Mass” service was the only one that was allowed to take place after sunset (and before sunrise the next day). This led to Midnight Mass, or Christ-Mass, shortened to Christmas.
Christians around the world now celebrate Christmas. It’s a time when family and friends come together and remember the good things they have. The Three Wise Men brought presents of gold, frankincense and myrrh to baby Jesus in the manger. These precious items showed the respect and reverence the Magi had for the Son of God.
